Join us for dinner!

On March 25th, We will be closed for regular Happy Hour and Dinner services to host Muhibbah Dinner. A recurring dinner series from the mind of owner and chef of Kampar— Ange Branca. Founded in 2017, The Muhibbah Dinner Series provides the opportunity to come together in fellowship over food and celebrate the diversity of Philadelphia’s cultures, cuisines, and communities. At their dinners, aspiring and professional chefs share dishes that feel like home – wherever home may be. Their communal meals celebrate true diversity: the differences, and similarities, that define America.

This upcoming dinner is more than a just dinner— its also a fundraiser! 100% of proceeds from this chef driven and community dining experience will be donated to benefit Esperanza Immigration Legal Services. EILS was established by Esperanza, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization founded in 1986, as part of its mission to strengthen Hispanic communities through education, economic development, and advocacy. This non-profit organization provides direct legal services, advocacy, and community education for underserved immigrants and their families, so they have the opportunity to contribute to and participate in American society.

Tickets are available now and included dinner, welcome drinks, and tax. Gratuity is NOT included but very much appreciated for our volunteers. As it is tradition, the dinner will be BYOB, so please feel free to bring libations for yourself and to share if you would like. Finally, due to the nature of the event, we are not able to accommodate dietary restrictions. Dinner will be served family style.

Sisterly Love: Women's Way Wednesday x Chef Angie Brown

Happy Women’s Month! We are so excited to announce that we’ll be participating in Women’s Way Wednesday!

For the whole month of March, Sisterly Love Collective have held a weekly pop-up at the stratus lounge, celebrating various women-owned and operated culinary and beverage establishments in the great city of Philadelphia. From 5-7;30pm, enjoy thoroughly curated bites from different chefs, with additional featured drinks, music and mingling.

Join us on Wednesday 3/26 for the finale of Women’s Way Wednesday! Our very own Chef Angie Brown will be closing us off in style. She’ll be serving up her own Creole Royale bites. A twist on a classic Creole Vol-au-vent, featuring our signature biscuits.

100% of proceeds from each event will benefit the non-profit organization Women’s Way and Sisterly Love Collective. Tickets are available now, but act fast, before they’re all gone!

Bethesda Project: Cocktails for a Cause

We are so excited to partner again with our good friends and neighbors at The Bethesda Project for a fun and an interactive fundraising event— Cocktails for a Cause!

For those of you who don’t know, The Bethesda Project is a non-profit organization, located at 11 different locations all across the city. Since 1979, their organization strides to offers a home and safe environment where guests and residents can stabilize, regain their dignity and self-worth, and find community. No matter how the world changes, Bethesda Project remains committed to its initial calling — to find and care for the abandoned poor and to be family with those who have none. They do so by providing shelter, housing, and supportive services to adults experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia.

Looking to show your support and get involved? Join us in our mezzanine on 4/4 for Cocktails for a Cause! From 6-8pm, be apart of a guided cocktail class from our in-house beverage expert, James, and learn lessons on how to build, shake & pour a selection of our takes on popular cocktails. Learn to craft high quality cocktails that are easy to repeat all on your own. There will be non-alcoholic cocktails options for any of us who don’t partake in alcoholic drinking as well.

Tickets are $60 for one person, $100 for two people. For each ticket sold, a portion of sales will be donated to The Bethesda Project. Every ticket includes a fully guided and interactive cocktail course featuring three cocktails & special take-home gift!

Chef Angie Brown’s Chef Series with Keith Taylor

We hope y’all are hungry, because we’re cooking up another Chef Series this April!!

Our own Chef Angie Brown has gathered various local chefs to join her in the kitchen each month to create and collaborate on an innovative menu and tasting experience. These collaborations infuse ingredients, skills, and personal stories and experiences into a five-course tasting menu. Secure a seat to the table and discover the connections and community you can make over the culture and cuisines these chefs love.

Join on April 14th from 6-9pm, for the third installment of this recurring series with local chef— Kieth Taylor of Zachary’s BBQ and Soul.

Tickets are $95 per person, and include tax and gratuity, an intimate dining experience at our 40-foot bar, five-course dinner of chef-driven and inspired cuisine created in collaboration, personal one-on-one interactions with the chefs, and a curated cocktail and wine menu available a la carte.

Trippet’s culinary excellence has been spotlighted by Forbes magazine, Philadelphia Eagles, Budwiser, NBC, PHL17, FOX29 and Disney/Pixar. She is a 2014 culinary graduate of the Art Institute of Philadelphia and a member of the prestigious global group of women in hospitality called Les Dames D’Escoffier*.*

Letters to Lincoln

Join us for a celebration of history— Black History!

Travel back in time and uncover heart-wrenching letters of the past when your join us on February 23rd for our Letters to Lincoln luncheon! Based off of the compelling book To Address You as My Friend, edited by Jonathan W. White, this historical collection of letters from African Americans to Abraham Lincoln are coming to life on our main stage. Award-winning author, Michael Twitty, actor Elijah Pringle, journalist and professor, Ernest Owens will be reading excerpts of letters written to Lincoln expressing the “dilemmas, doubts, and dreams of both recently enslaved and free people in the throes of dramatic change. These letters, most of which have never been published, offer unflinching, intimate, and often heart-wrenching portraits of Black soldiers’ and civilians’ experiences in wartime.”

From 3pm-5pm, experience a three-course luncheon and a show like no other! Tickets are $65 and inclusive of tax and grat! This is will be a luncheon and live reading on our stage from the book To Address You as My Friend: African Americans' Letters to Abraham Lincoln. Tickets available now.

Friday Bottle Shop Tasting with Delta Dirt!

Friday Bottle Shop Tasting are back! Join us this Friday, February 21st, as we welcome Delta Dirt to our Bottle Shop.

Delta Dirt Distillery is a family-owned and black-owned, craft distillery located in the richest farmland in the country - the Arkansas Delta. They grow their own produce and grains in the same community where these authentic spirits are distilled, which makes them unique in the American distilling industry. The Williams family have deep roots in Arkansas and have farmed their land in Phillips County for four generations.

We can’t wait to welcome them into our space, here at Rex at the Royal!

From 5pm to 7pm, meet with a representative and get the insider’s scoop, as you will have to the opportunity to chat and try samples of their signature vodkas. Then, head over to the bar for a specialty happy hour, featuring craft cocktails spotlighting Delta Dirt Vodka.

 Chef Angie Brown has partnered with Michelin-trained Chef Ja’mir Cole from The Avery to introduce an elevated and intimate dining experience to our bar. Join us on February 3rd at 6pm for the first ever, Chef Angie Brown’s Chef Series!

Recurring monthly tickets event for guests 21 and older, this His-story & Her-story dining experience highlights the evolution of culinary creativity. Indulge a one-night-only menu imagined by Chef Angie and Chef Ja’mir sharing stories, recipes and their passion for creole and cajun cuisine together. Menu features a five-course dinner with additional wine pairing for an added cost.

Chef Ja’mir Cole is a young, rising star chef. He is set to lead the culinary direction at newly opened restaurant “The Avery” this winter at 2nd & Chestnut. Be the first to enjoy his creations before they open.

Tickets cost $125 per person for the five-course dinner + tax. For five-course dinner with additional wine pairings, tickets will cost $200 per person + tax.

Burger Night: Attic Brewing Co. Takeover

We are so thrilled to partner with local brewery— Attic Brewing Co. Located in Germantown, this brewing company has been a staple in the Philly beer scene since 2020. They’re known to brew a variety of beer styles including West Coast IPAs, Hazy IPAs,  lagers, pilsners, stouts, porters, Belgian beers, sour beers, barleywines, barrel-fermented beers and barrel aged beers. Not only do they brew awesome beers, but they’re also known to work with local non-profits and local organizations, actively giving back to their surrounding neighborhoods and communities. Truly a treat, we are so grateful to have the opportunity to be able to collaborate with them too!

They’ll be taking over our bar on August 28th for an extra special Burger Night! Featuring a menu that celebrates Attic, we’ve hand-selected a variety of beers from their rotating collection for you to enjoy with our recurring Burger Night deal. We will be offering a special bar menu, featuring five exclusive bar bites and five wines by the glass from the spectacular Osmote Winery located on The Finger Lakes. A region not usually known for their nature and sustainable wine production.

In addition to wines by the glass, you may order your own flight of any three out of five wines available. We will also have special to-go offers on all of these wines in our Bottle Shop all evening long. Free tasting samples will be poured to any guests who visits our Bottle Shop during the daytime.

Luxuriate in the pleasure of the temporary as we invite you to a truly unique cocktail experience–the innovation, thoughtfulness and creative spark that have crowned Rex’s bar Royal endow Regina with our signature intentionality, while, in jocular retort, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it excitement sets our chimeric queen apart from her steadfast partner just down the grand staircase.

Regina: a constellatory cocktail experience is inspired by the 7th Ward Tribute’ Legacy Reclaimed, in particular the installation “Reflecting Revenants” which will celebrate the final day of its display in our mezzanine with Regina. The entire series quietly yet insistently reminds the viewer that places are made of the people who come to spend time in them. A place—a bar, say—is the composite shape of the lives and choices which make it unique. Regina will feature cocktails which trace a different shape—rather than the people of a place, the places of a person. 

Our path from place to place is a cartography of breadcrumb pieces of ourselves, but every now and then we mark a place as special by planting a beacon—to help us know where we’re going and understand where we’ve been. The shape of this path can only be seen from the ground with sky-ward gaze: a constellation telling the story of a person by the places they’ve valued the most.

The menu will chart this constellatory path through taste—how we share ourself with a place through the flavors we love—with cocktails inspired by real-life examples of those heart-held tastes from a few of the people who have been here.

So join our best drinking buddy and serial single, Joshua Scheid, in our mezzanine lounge for a fun-filled afternoon of spirits and cocktails featuring spirits made by friends, for friends.

Taste your way through three spirits–each one made by a duo or group of friends–as Joshua walks you through the process of cocktail creation: from shopping in the liquor store, to prepping ingredients, to mixing up a batch the next time you want to show off at game night. For each spirit, Joshua will demonstrate and serve one of his innovative and bespoke recipes, crafted just for this event. You’ll even take home a signature Rex at the Royal engraved cocktail glass and a just-add-booze kit to make one of the featured cocktails at home!

Bring a pal and make some new ones at Rex, because cocktails are best served together. Join us for some learning, laughter, and love (of the Philly variety) over spirits and cocktails and you can make your home bar a place where it’s always a great show!

Join us in our mezzanine lounge for a fun and educational evening of spirits and cocktails - all for a good cause. The lineup features three spirits for you to sip as you learn not just about the spirits themselves, but also how to taste, how to pair with other flavors, and how to pick something out for your home bar.

Regina: a royal cocktail experience

From Rex at the Royal Beverage Manager, Joshua Scheid, Rex’s partner, Regina, is a monthly menu-driven cocktail tasting in our candle lit mezzanine lounge.

Regina crafts cocktail as the ultimate expression of temporality–achievable in singular form only once: at the unrepeatable intersection of this tongue and that pour–reflected in the fleeting nature of the menu: four cocktails, one place, one night only.

For the premiere, Regina will be featuring a royal lineup of cocktails–each inspired by a cultural icon elevated to the status of “queen.” In America, royal status isn’t granted by birth, it’s earned. Whether her reign lasts for a day or a decade, a queen is crowned by the collective will of the people–it’s loud, it’s messy, it’s beautiful, and it’s just how we do things here. Meet the Winemaker: Kieran Robinson

Meet winemaker Kieran Robinson of R Five Wines over a four-course tasting menu of food and wine pairings.

Join Rex sommelier, Max Glenn, in our intimate mezzanine dining room for a dinner and presentation with local winemaker Kieran Robinson. Enjoy four of Kieran's wines, each paired with a special dish created by our executive chef, Scott Dalesandro.

After working in the Finger Lakes, Northern Rhone, Napa Valley and Sonoma, Kieran and his partner Kristie launched the R Five label, with the goal of bringing the California wine tasting experience to the East Coast. Rooted in French viticulture and winemaking philosophies, Kieran's expressive California wines shine paired with Rex at the Royal's modern, Southern-inspired cuisine for a truly bi-coastal culinary experience.

Philly’s own James Jones, the creator of Good Vibes Only and a contestant on CBS Survivor, is back at Rex for another lively and fun-filled evening. Alongside our signature menu of Southern cuisine with coastal flair, we’re serving up a seasonal selection of small plate specials–perfect for snacking and sharing–and at the bar, we’re mixing up creative spins on classic cocktails like the sazerac and the sidecar.

Our intimate mezzanine bar and cocktail lounge will be open with a specially crafted menu, a DJ, and space for seating, lounging, mingling and--of course--vibing.

Drawn from the beverage manager Joshua's uncompleted dissertation from his doctoral studies in opera, Extra is a casual cocktail evening featuring specials inspired by the non-speaking background characters in film and TV who stirred and shook his childhood queerness.

Join Joshua and Alex in Rex's intimate mezzanine cocktail lounge and enjoy cocktails inspired by characters like "crocheting pirate muppet" and "biomimetic copy of unnamed bridge officer” alongside Rex’s signature menu of coastal-influenced Southern cuisine.
